Trent Reznor aims to have David Bowie's 'fearlessness in reinventing himself'

The musician - best known for recording under the name Nine Inch Nails- said he was inspired by the 'Space Oddity' rocker to put the project on hiatus in 2009 and focus on new things, including his How To Destroy Angels band and work on the soundtrack to film 'The Social Network'.

He told Rollingstone.com: "My reason for stopping touring with Nine Inch Nails is that I needed to force my own hand to make myself do something different.

"There's an unspoken pressure to keep touring - that's the only way to make a living - but I look at David Bowie's fearlessness in changing and reinventing himself. That takes courage."

Trent's collaboration with musician Atticus Ross for 'The Social Network' soundtrack was well received, with the pair picking up an Oscar for it.

He has also confirmed How To Destroy Angels will release their debut album later this year, but promises Nine Inch Nails will be revived soon.

He added: "Nine Inch Nails is not dead and I plan to focus on that next. The hiatus won't be forever. The urge to tour again, in some capacity, will break through in the next few years."
