Do you think Trent Reznor ever imagined when he was writing the Nine Inch Nails anger driven 'Closer To God' that one day he would be nominated for an Academy Award?
Nine Inch Nails'1994's 'The Downward Spiral' was Reznor's graphic musical documentation of onetime attempt at suicide. The final track on the album, the haunting 'Hurt', was covered by Johnny Cash in 2002. It became one of Cash's last hits before his death in 2003.
In 2011, Reznor is a different man, with a different story. He is now an Academy Award nominee for his soundtrack for 'The Social Network', the movie about the birth of Facebook.
Reznor and co-writer Atticus Ross have been nominated for 'Best Original Score. It won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Soundtrack' just a few weeks back.
The other nominees are John Powell for 'How To Train Your Dragon', Hans Zimmer for 'Inception', Alexandre Desplat for 'The King's Speech' and A.R. Rahman for '127 Hours'.
The Academy Awards will be announced from Los Angeles on February 27, 2011.
