In a piece of awesome news, annual sales of vinyl records in the UK are set to pass the one million mark for the first time since the mid 1990s.
Vinyl sales were already overtaking those of 2013, but now sale figures suggest that more than one million vinyl records are set to be shifted this year - for the first time since 1996.
According to a statement from the BPI, UK vinyl sales for the first nine months of 2014 are close to 800,000, surpassing the 780,674 that were sold the previous year.
The statement continues that 1996 was te the last time that vinyl sales passed the million milestone in the UK (led by The Fugees' The Score). Numbers then dwindled to just 640,000 in 1998, and 200,000 by 2007.
This year's biggest albums of the year so far on vinyl are
1. AM by Arctic Monkeys
2. Lazaretto by Jack White
3. Definitely Maybe by Oasis
4. Royal Blood by Royal Blood
5. Led Zeppelin by Led Zeppelin
6. The Stone Roses by The Stone Roses
7. Led Zeppelin 3 by Led Zeppelin
8. The Dark Side Of The Moon by Pink Floyd
9. Led Zeppelin 2 by Led Zeppelin
10. Whatever People Say I Am That's What I'm Not by Arctic Monkeys
Sales have been on a steady ascent since 2008, and we'd argue that it's due to real music lovers falling back in love with the physical product and romance of the album, not to mention artists putting a lot more love and detail into their vinyl packages, and the plethora of incredible record stores we find managing to survive in today's climate.
