Radiohead, The White Stripes, Queens of the Stoneage and the 'LORD OF THE RINGS' film were the early winners at yesterdays NME AWARDS at London's hammersmith Palais.
Thom Yorke and his band were presented the award for Best Video for 'There There' by Peaches. They followed Radio 1's Zane Lowe (Best Radio Show) and Kings Of Leon (Best New Band, presented by Lowe) onto the stage. The White Stripes were unable to make the awards and sent a video acceptance speech for Best Single for 'Seven Nation Army'.
This evening's ceremony was opened by two live performances - from Scissor Sisters running through 'Take Your Mama Out' and The Libertines with 'Don't Look Back Into The Sun'. Rising Glaswegian stars Franz Ferdinand also played, working through Top Five hit 'Take Me Out'. They stayed around to pick up the Philip Hall Radar Award.
Melissa Auf Der Maur presented Queens Of The Stone Age with the Best Live Band award, on the day it was announced the band have parted company with founder member Nick Oliveri.
Love's Arthur Lee was on hand to accept his Living Legend award.
Ahead of anticipated Oscar glory, 'Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King' was NME Film Of The Year. Billy Boyd, the Hobbit hero Pippin in the movie, picked up the gong from Sadie Frost.
The Queens Of Noize presented Har Mar Superstar with his Rock And Roll Man Of The Year award.
