Will Smith made headlines last week while he was premiering "Men in Black 3" abroad. At the film's Moscow premiere, a male reporter from a Ukrainian program called "1+1" attempted to give the actor a kiss mid-hug. Well, Smith didn't take to kindly to the sneak attack and responded by slapping him.
When Smith stopped by "Late Show With David Letterman" on Tuesday night, he laughed off the encounter but let it be known that he's not into impromptu make-out sessions with strangers on red carpets.
"I didn't beat up a guy! No, no. I was in Moscow and ... we're doing an interview and he says, 'Man ...,' he was a reporter and he says, 'I'm your biggest fan, can I have a hug, please?' " he recalled to Letterman. "So I go to give this joker a hug and he tries to lean in to kiss me, you know? And ... it's just awkward, Dave."
The "1+1" crew and Smith talked out the encounter at the event, and the man in black added, "I don't know. ... They were [like] 'We're sorry, you know, it's just his shtick.' and I said, 'That's why his ass got shtuck.' "
"Men in Black 3" opens May 25, just in time for Memorial Day weekend. MTV News recently caught up with the actor, who shared why he thinks the third film in the "MIB" franchise is so special.
"The fun of [this film] is trying to make it new but not so new that it don't match," Smith said. "We had to be able to create something that was brand-new, that stands on its own, and it's been 10 years since the first movie, so there were a lot of things working against it. But it's the first time it's in 3-D — my ears are in 3-D for the first time," he said with a laugh. "I'm very happy with it."
