The 40-year-old singer needed to get from the show's auditions at London's O2 Arena to Wembley Stadium to perform with Take That. According to The Mirror, execs decided that the fastest way would be by air.
So instead of having to take a 50-minute Tube journey, which would have cost around £5, the judge travelled in style – but was still late.
A source told The Mirror, 'We shelled out all this money for a private plane as we wanted him to see all the auditions and get to his gigs.
'It sounds a lot but we thought it was the best way to get him to Wembley.
'Gary is seen as being the new Simon Cowell on the show this year, and he certainly travelled like him.'
An X Factor spokesman declined to comment.
