This week, however, one of those choices is out of their hands, thanks to the Pepsi Challenge, which asked fans to choose one of the contestants' two songs for Wednesday night (December 5), with the other tune picked by the mentors, as usual. When we caught up with four of the "X Factor" top six at L.A.'s Jingle Ball over the weekend, they gave MTV News the scoop about which songs the fans chose for them — and how they're feeling about it.
Even though the judges seem to reserve their harshest critiques for the ever-polarizing CeCe Frey, she is more than ready to deliver her fan-picked track, Katy Perry's "Part of Me."
"I think that the fans did a great job," Frey told. "The fans know what they want, they know what they want to see, and if I can really deliver, you can't hardly go wrong with doing exactly what America wants."
While all the details hadn't been ironed out when we spoke to her, CeCe was determined to incorporate her fans as much as possible. "I'm really trying to take into account everything that the fans want," she said. "We're really taking all their input, all their influence for the performance, so I'm really excited to see what me and what the fans come up with as a collaboration."
What is the secret behind CeCe Frey's "X Factor" staying power?
After tackling Adele's "Rolling in the Deep," Carly Rose Sonenclar will channel yet another diva this week, with the fans choosing Beyoncé's "If I Were a Boy" for the 13-year-old.
"We're still trying to figure it out, but I think it's going to be stripped-down a little bit," she teased.
Diamond White is ready to prove herself this week with a namesake song that will hopefully help her avoid a repeat trip to the bottom two.
"I'm getting 'Diamonds' by Rihanna, and I'm so excited that's the song that they got me," she gushed. "It's my name, so it's going to be so much fun singing it. My spin, I'm going to make it grand, like humongous. I don't really want to give too much away, because I still have to keep the element of surprise there, but it's going to be epic."
Finally, if it weren't difficult enough to sing in front of certified pop stars Britney Spears and Demi Lovato, it must be doubly tough if you're singing one of their very own songs. That will be the challenge for Fifth Harmony this week, who will be covering Lovato's "Give Your Heart a Break." But the fivesome are up for the challenge, especially since they previously sang Lovato's "Skyscraper."
"[It's] our second song in front of Demi, which is really weird," Fifth Harmony's Camila Cabello told. "We're obsessed with her. The fact that we perform it in front of her, it's, like, so surreal."
