In an increasingly pricey and over-saturated major festival market, sometimes it can be a bit of a headache and a dent to the bank balance to enjoy live music in the Great British summer. Fear not however, for those of us who enjoy getting rained on in huge muddy fields, there are many cheaper grassroots alternatives. Sometimes you've got to just say Y Not?
Awful pun aside, Y Not Festival features a full three days of music in the Derbyshire Peak District countryside for the cheap as chips cost of £79.50 for a weekend ticket. And don't be fooled by the price, this little festival has a line-up that packs a major punch and boasts former headliners such as Feeder and Frank Turner. This year is shaping up to be just as big.
This years headlining trio consists of goth rockers The Horrors, UK indie veterans The Cribs and the Brit Award winning glam rock superstars The Darkness. Anyone who isn't screaming in their best falsetto voice to 'I Believe in a Thing Called Love' on the Sunday night needs to have a long hard look at themselves in the mirror. There are also many other gems scattered about the festival's many stages. Deaf Havana bring their Springsteen-tinged rock A-game to the Quarry Stage for a headline set on the Saturday before Electric Six take you all to a gay bar on Sunday night in a showing that promises some of the biggest sing alongs of the festival. There is also The Giant Squid stage for anyone who likes their rock music meaty with huge balls: and nobody has bigger ones than underground metal royalty InMe who are joined in headlining sets by Three Trapped Tigers and We Are The Ocean.
Most importantly, Y Not sports 7 bars where you can buy cocktails and real ale (REAL ALE!) to muddy the senses before you party into the early hours or just collapse into your tent to prepare for another hard days rockin'.
Along with the full line-up, weekend camping and early entry tickets are on sale now from the official festival website: http://ynotfestivals.co.uk/
