I wanted to build a house, so I did
I laboured for weeks, it was all I could do
and as I was working I kept creating more
and when I was done, I was proud for two

they looked at my house and admired it

they scratched up the woodwork and dirtied the floor
if once there was life, by now it was dead

the people who lived there first soon started to fight
they still loved the house and stood up for their word
but it's impossible for joy to remain
in a house where only hatred is heard

at last I couldn't stand it, I had enough
I left my house, never to return
