Anne Hathaway To Play Lesbian Character On 'Glee'

"Glee" is becoming a place where movie stars can stretch their small-screen muscles. has already found a home on the hit Fox show and now Anne Hathaway also is set to make an appearance on the musical comedy.

The "Love and Other Drugs" star apparently will have an interesting storyline when she does rub elbows with the Golden Globes-winning crew. Show creator Ryan Murphy revealed to People.com at the awards ceremony on Sunday, "We just finalized a deal with Anne tonight to come onto the show... She's already created [her role]. She wants to play the lesbian aunt of Chris Colfer. Because everyone needs a lesbian aunt." (Colfer, who plays Kurt on "Glee," picked up his first ever Golden Globe honor at the event.)

Murphy explained that Hathaway pitched him the idea of stopping by the show. "They always do," he said. "I can't even think of who. But it's so sweet. I think they support the show because it's about the arts."

As it turns out, Colfer already had been hoping that Hathway would become a part of his "Glee" family, telling E! Online last month, "Can you imagine a family with myself, Mike O'Malley, Julie Andrews and Anne Hathaway? That's one hell of a family!"

Lea Michele, meanwhile, is looking forward to Paltrow's big return to the show. "I'm excited," she told. "Anything with Gwyneth is great."

As for fellow "Glee" stars Amber Reilly and Darren Criss, they are pumped up about the program's upcoming Justin Bieber-themed episode. "It should be fun," Criss noted. "I just hope they do the hairdo!" The cast will sing two Bieber songs, including his 2010 hit "Baby," off his My World 2.0 album.
