The 27-year-old singer is working with top-songwriter Wayne Wilkins on a third solo album, and is said to be using it as a way to cope with her rumoured sacking from the show. However, speculation is mounting that she could be set to be reinstated by the end of the week.
According to The Mirror, her manager Will.i.am has assured her that she doesn't need Simon Cowell's help to crack America, and she is scheduled to get to work in the studio over the next few weeks.
A source told the newspaper, 'Cheryl's time and energy is going into her music and writing songs. She is putting her emotions down on paper. A lot of the tracks she writes are likely to be about how she is feeling right now.
'She wants to prove to everyone that she's a great pop star and is in control of her own destiny and doesn't need to rely on others.
'Cheryl thinks with Wayne and Will.i.am she has the best team in the business.'
