Gwyneth Paltrow had to "press the override button" on her heartbreak following her split from husband Chris Martin.
The 43-year-old actress and her Coldplay frontman spouse announced their "conscious uncoupling" in March 2014 and their divorce was reportedly finalised last month (Mar16). Throughout their break-up, Gwyneth and Chris have always put their children, 11-year-old Apple and 10-year-old Moses, first, but the Iron Man star admits she had to forgo her own feelings at times to do so.
"It's also almost about having to press the 'override' button whenever you feel angry or jealous or whatever, broken-hearted," she told Red magazine. "I'm going back to the baseline of I love this person, he is the father of my children, he's a wonderful man. I'm just going to put my s**t aside for right now. It really has not been easy for me at times, I'm sure it's not been easy for him."
Both Gwyneth and Chris have moved on with their romantic lives - the actress is dating Glee co-creator Brad Falchuk while Chris is in a relationship with Peaky Blinders actress Annabelle Wallis.
And the actress insists she won't ever think badly of her ex, because he gave her so much happiness in her life.
"When we said we're going to put the children first, we meant (it). If you want to put your children first, then why are you slagging your husband off in front of them?" she said.
'So we really tried (and) that meant I'm gonna check my s**t at the door, and I'm going to focus on all the reasons that I love you, that you're like my brother and my family forever."
Despite her comments, Gwyneth still struggles to accept that her marriage didn't work out. But she can be safe in the knowledge that both she and Chris tried their utmost to get past their issues.
"I have to say it wasn't the outcome we were hoping for, but it was our outcome and we've really done the best that we can," she said.
