A former trustee for James Brown's estate says he still filed tax forms for the estate even after he quit.
David Cannon is accused of misappropriating 7 million dollars of Brown's money.
He told a judge in Bamberg, South Carolina, he filed four amended tax returns to save the estate 39 million. When the judge expressed shock that he'd do that after quitting, Cannon said, "I would rather be taking the heat for saving the trust a substantial amount of money than to sit here and be taking the heat for letting it pass by."
The judge ordered Cannon to pay $370,000 to the estate, but Cannon said he can't afford that. He offered beach property valued at 2 million instead. The judge ordered Cannon to pay the money by Tuesday.
The hearing comes as the courts try to determine the value of Brown's assets.
