Johnny Marr has spoken out in support of Metallica headlining Glastonbury, stating that now they're the underdogs he's all for them.
Speaking at last weeks prestigous Ivor Novello awards in London, Marr spoke out against critics of the rock giants, saying that James Hetfield and co should simply go up there and prove everybody wrong. He also commented on how, being booked for the festival, Metallica becoming underdogs, adding that he isn't a snob when it comes to music.
"Well everyone is entitled to their own opinion and you never know they might plug in and play and put on a show that really rocks 30, 40, 50,000 people," he said. "You know I'm kind of... You wouldn't think of Metallica being the underdog would you and suddenly they've become the underdog so I'm all for 'em now.
"If the press are on their back then maybe they should just plug in and shut everyone up. So if they can do that then that would be fantastic and it'd be good for the audience too. Why not. I'm not into musical snobbery."
When asked about his highlights from the festival, he responded: "I saw Pet Shop Boys there a few years ago and it was really really good and also when Gorillaz were on they were really good too.
"The set I played with the cribs was really good and the set I did last year was really mind blowing because we had a few great moments that I wasn't really expecting. It's a great place and I've got a lot of really great memories of it."
