Julian Casablancas has clarified his recent interview quotes implying he hates playing his greatest hits with The Strokes.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Casablancas described his profound disconnect with his back catalogue saying he doesn't "feel anything from" playing Strokes songs. However, on Twitter last night he explained: "there were times with the Strokes when maybe we had some issues, but they are resolved now (and have been for a little while now)... and i very much enjoy playing with them!
That settled, he also discussed a recently GQ interview where he dismissed the concept of brunch (which naturally prompted half a dozen think pieces on the topic from the American food press). He Tweeted earlier today: "for the record, i was specifically joking about when people dress up like it's the kentucky derby for LES brunch... i am not against the concept of weekend late breakfast, which people of all freedoms & hues should enjoy".
Legacy and leisurely lunching now sorted, The Strokes are still set on recording the followup to Countdown Machine next year. Casablancas recently told BBC 6 Music. "In January we might meet up and work on some ideas. Everyone is psyched. Everything is in a really cool place."
The band played their first shows since 2011 this summer, of which Casablancas said: "It was really cool and we played some shows and the vibe is finally... I don't know if we ever had that good a working friendship foundation [in our] work relationship, but now we finally have that. We'll always have the creative vibe."
He did however recently caution that the band may never tour again. When asked by GQ about the band's current state, he explained that the group "wasn't so equal, but it was the illusion of equal, so I think it fucked with everything" before adding: "A band is a great way to destroy a friendship, and a tour's a great way to destroy a band."
Casblancas recently announced for a short run of dates, playing at London's The Coronet before heading out around Europe. The London show is the only date in the UK currently scheduled, with no news as to whether gigs in other parts of the country will be added to the tour.
The announcement comes in the wake of Tyranny, Casablancas' second solo album which is released later this month through Cult Records.
