Justin Bieber will reportedly have to pay "thousands of dollars" to settle the bill for his pet monkey's accommodation in Germany.
The singer was forced to leave the animal behind after visiting the country on the European leg of his world tour because he failed to produce the required paper work for the exotic creature.
German officials have estimated the cost for putting up Capuchin monkey Mally in a Munich animal shelter for two months will run into a four-figure sum.
"Customs spokesman Thomas Meister says Bieber has until midnight Friday to claim the monkey seized by authorities on March 28, when the singer failed to produce its papers after landing in Munich on tour. The shelter says his management company has asked that the 20-week-old monkey be placed in a zoo," Fox News reports.
Justin was given the unusual pet for his 19th birthday in March by music producer Jamal 'Mally Mal' Rashid.
Mally was seized by German customs officials and placed in quarantine after the pop star tried to bring the animal into the country in his private jet.
According to Fox News, the Canadian heartthrob has failed to make an official request to place the monkey in a zoo.
Justin had previously been given an extension to complete the paperwork to get his pet back, after his management initially expressed an interest in retrieving the monkey.
Animal welfare experts have expressed their concern about the animal's wellbeing and asked Justin to release Mally to officials.
"A baby monkey was never going to be suited to be on a world tour even if he is travelling by private jet," the Munich clinic boss Karl Heinz Joachim told Britain's Daily Mail newspaper. "He should be out in the wild climbing trees and learning from other monkeys if he isn't to have serious psychological problems later in life."
