Fans have chosen Kings of Leon as the first act to be confirmed for OXEGEN 09.
The US rockers will headline for the second consecutive year when OXEGEN returns to Punchestown Racecourse, Naas, Co Kildare from 10th-12th July 2009.
Kings of Leon confirmed their status as the most popular live act in the world by once again topping the poll of fans on OXEGEN.ie. The band were thrilled by the reception their performance received last year and lead singer, Caleb Followill, speaking from the stage, hailed the famous OXEGEN atmosphere: 'It is a dream to play gigs like this. We consider ourselves a small band but you have made us feel so big.'
Kings Of Leon could have chosen to play 80,000 capacity gigs at Slane or Croke Park but will instead reward OXEGEN's fans for their support by making the festival their only Irish appearance of 2009.
2008 certainly was a memorable year for Kings of Leon. They notched up their first Irish chart topper with 'Sex on Fire' and a number 1 album with the critically acclaimed 'Only By The Night'. As well as their sensational OXEGEN performance, the band's pre-Christmas gigs at the O2 in Dublin and Belfast's Odyssey Arena sold out in minutes.
