La Roux singer Elly Jackson was bullied for being overweight.
The 'Bulletproof' star claims other girls at her private school mocked her body shape and dress sense, but the teasing made her determined to change her looks.
She said: "At school you're almost incapable of doing anything outside what your peers do. I went to an incredibly strict, religious private school, and it sucked the life out of me.
"My friends were very girly, going out in mini-skirts and I just didn't get it. I got a lot of c**p as a teenager because I was quite a lot bigger than I am now. There would be groups of girls at the bus stop shouting, 'Fat one' and I lost a lot of weight after that."
Elly also revealed she cut her hair short because she was tired of being compared to the late singer Joni Mitchell.
She added to Britain's Observer Woman magazine: "Until a couple of years ago I had hair down to my chest. Everyone said I looked like Joni Mitchell. I'd had enough. So I kept cutting it until it got to my ears and started experimenting with it."
