Metallica are reportedly locked in the studio working on new music, with Lars Ulrich revealing the band are "going through the grind".
Ulrich has given Rolling Stone magazine an update on the band's progress in the studio where they are currently recording the follow up to Death Magnetic. He said that the record is well underway with the band working on connecting previously written sections rather than laying down whole tracks.
"We're going through the grind," he told the magazine. "We're in there doing riffs and putting them into songs. We don't really write one song and then show up the next day and do another one. We just work on riffs and sections, connecting riffs and tempos and moods."
As for production on the album, Ulrich said that the band had begun to discuss who they might like behind the desk. "We're going to start talking about who is going to produce the album," he said, "We haven't started recording yet. But we are deep into the songwriting part of it."
