The ‘Machete’ actress is currently undergoing a rehab treatment programme at the Betty Ford Clinic in Los Angeles and medics have warned her if Dina continues to focus her energies on her daughter’s career rather than being a parent to her, Lindsay will find it harder to beat her drug problems.
A source said: "Dina needs to no longer act as her manager, or work for her daughter in any capacity. Lindsay needs Dina to simply be her mother. Lindsay's treatment team at Betty Ford has emphasised this to Lindsay, very, very strongly.”
The pressures of being the main earner in her family and being responsible for providing for her mother and siblings – Michael Douglas Jr., Ali and Dakota, also known as Cody – have taken their toll on Lindsay, 24, and doctors believe that by working for her daughter Dina has damaged their relationship.
The insider told RadarOnline.com: “Lindsay feels the financial burden of taking care of her entire family. It's enormous pressure for any person in their twenties, let alone someone that is battling with addiction. Lindsay and Dina don't have a normal mother-and-daughter dynamic because of the length of time that Dina has worked for Lindsay.”
Lindsay’s father Michael is locked in a war of words with his ex-wife over the best treatment for their daughter.
The pair have traded insults in recent weeks with Michael branding Dina a “hypocrite” and Lindsay’s mother claiming her ex-husband has “lost his mind” and she has also accused him of selling stories about Lindsay.
Michael has been banned from visiting Lindsay while she is in rehab by Dina with her daughter’s consent.
