The 24-year-old actress arrived at LA’s Airport Courthouse at about 1.15pm earlier today to be formally arraigned on a grand theft charge.
The judge released Lohan on bail, but warned her that if she does not stay out of trouble while the case is ongoing, she will find herself behind bars.
“You need to follow the law just like everybody else,” Judge Keith Schwartz told the former Mean Girls star.
“Look around this room. Everyone in this room has to follow the law – the court, the DA [District Attorney], your [lawyer], the sheriff’s deputies, everybody. You’re no different than anyone else, so please don’t push your luck because I’m telling you… things will be different.”
Judge Schwartz granted a request by Deputy District Attorney Danette Meyers to set Lohan’s bail at $20,000 for both the theft charge and the probation violation charge.
The judge also ordered Lohan to stay away from Kamofie & Company after Meyers revealed the shop had received a bouquet of flowers after alerting authorities about the missing necklace.
Lohan’s lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, told the court that, this incident aside, the actress had been “in compliance” with the terms of her probation and had been “a good probationer”.
If convicted of the grand theft charge, Lohan could face up to three years behind bars at California State Prison. She is due back in court on 23 February.
