The actress – who is currently undergoing a court-ordered rehab stint after serving less than two weeks of a 90-day jail sentence – is doing "wonderfully" and has managed to cope with everything she has experienced since being given the sentence by Judge Martha Revel for breaching her probation.
Her mother Dina Lohan said: "She's great. She's been through a lot. The judge played hardball. Lindsay was in with alleged murderers and she's become friends with a lot of them. Lindsay rolled with the punches and she's doing wonderfully."
Dina also revealed Lindsay plans to leave Los Angeles and move to New York when her rehab is complete, as she feels the change in lifestyle will be beneficial.
She added in an interview on the 'Today' show: "California is a wonderful state but it's a different game you play there, the court system is a little different."
Dina – who has been criticised by several people, including her ex-husband Michael Lohan, for apparently condoning her daughter's partying - also claims she has only ever done her best to be a good mother and has let her daughter make her own mistakes.
She said: "As a parent, you have to let her go a little bit. When she went out to Los Angeles when she was 19, I had to let her go and let her live and fall and fail and survive. Without failure, there's no success. I was there in close proximity, but you can't make your child not go out and go to a club and not get behind the wheel of a car. I certainly don't condone any of that behaviour."
