The 24-year-old star is currently receiving treatment at the Betty Ford Clinic in California after voluntarily checking in there last month. Earlier this week, Lindsay began craving a carbonated drink and became frustrated when she couldn’t get one at the facility.
The clinic has strict rules regarding luxuries such as caffeine, fizzy drinks, cell phones or television.
So Lindsay and another patient decided to sneak into the nearby Eisenhower Medical Center to track down a vending machine and buy a soda.
However, as they attempted to leave the Betty Ford Clinic, Lindsay’s accomplice’s clothes became caught on the fence and they had to seek assistance.
"Lindsay and her co-conspirator were forced to give it up and flag down a volunteer, who was crossing the centre’s grounds on a golf cart," a source told RadarOnline.com.
"The pair was safely returned, decaffeinated, to their hall, were they were the centre of a process meeting over what they had done."
Lindsay decided to become an in-patient at the Betty Ford Clinic after failing two court-ordered drug tests while on probation. She is believed to have tested positive for cocaine and Adderall, a drug taken for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
The actress has been to rehab several times before, including stints at the Cirque Lodge Treatment Center, Wonderland Center and Promises Treatment Center.
