Sex and drugs reign in a campy new trailer for Lindsay Lohan's upcoming L.A.-based drama, "The Canyons." The trailer features no dialogue and very little clothing as Lohan, porn star James Deen and the rest of La La Land's most beautiful try to catch their big break, by any and all means.
With shots of seedy parties, steamy hot tub make-out sessions and sweeping shots of Malibu, the trailer plays out like a grainy B-movie from the 1950s or '60s, though the film is set in modern day. "In 'The Canyons' everything goes," a message on the screen reads, "Where the sex is as cheap as the budget and the only way out is death."
And, they aren't joking. Sex is certainly abundant in the clip, and a bloody hand holding a film reel confirms that something bad is bound to happen to one of the cast before the film's credits roll.
About a third of the way through, a teary Lohan makes an appearance as Tara. Described as "sweet as sin," her character is seen strolling down a street and lying in the sun. And in a kitschy tease to his adult film roots, " 'huge' new talent" Deen is established as "the boy next door... gone bad!"
The film is expected to open sometime next year. It was written by Bret Easton Ellis (author of "American Psycho") and directed by Paul Schrader. The trailer closes out with this final message, "If you have a taste for suspense, take a trip to 'The Canyons'."
When MTV News spoke to "The Canyons" producer Braxton Pope over the summer, he explained why Lohan was perfect for the part of bad-girl Tara. "What's kind of lost in a lot of the Lindsay discussions is the fact that Lindsay is a very talented actress," he said. "She's very charismatic and she has a lot of acting skills. So her lifestyle and some of the things that she's gone through have tended to kind of overwhelm the fact, but Lindsay has kind of real talent. So for this part, we felt that she was really the right actor for a host of different reasons."
