The troubled ‘Mean Girls’ actress is currently at the Betty Ford Center in California – and as part of her recovery met with her estranged father Michael for the first time in seven months this week.
Speaking about their meeting, a source told People.com: “Lindsay is now open to working on things with her father. It's a part of her recovery. She's taking things seriously and she's really had a lot of success so far.”
The pair reportedly “spent quality time together” and Michael has since praised his daughter’s efforts to get clean following reported problems with substance abuse and alcohol.
He said: “I thank God that she is in the place that she is in now. I love her and I am very, very, proud of how far she has come.”
The next stage of Lindsay’s recovery will see her meet with her mother Dina and Michael together – who have been engaged in a bitter war of words over both their daughter and with each other for years.
Michael said: “I hope that Dina can get on the same page and put it all to rest by having family therapy together.”
The family time – which will also include her 16-year-old sister Ali - is for "healing and bonding" and part of Lindsay’s continued recovery.
Dina, 48, has previously stated she is not opposed to Lindsay, 24, meeting with Michael, 50, as part of her treatment and is open to whatever the facility chooses.
She said: “Whatever the facility wishes for her. It's all about Lindsay and her healing."
Lindsay entered rehab on September 27 and is presently scheduled to stay at the rehab facility until January 3 on the orders of a judge after she failed court-ordered drugs tests.
The actress’ continuing legal problems stem from a 2007 Driving Under the Influence (DU) arrest.
