The 24-year-old actress is currently receiving treatment at the Betty Ford Center in California, where she checked in after failing two court-ordered drug tests while on probation. She has been ordered by a judge to stay in the facility until January 3 2011. The star has been in rehab several times before, but according to her mother Dina Lohan this latest stint has helped her the most.
In an interview aired on the Today Show in America this morning, Dina spoke about the changes she has seen in her daughter over the last few weeks.
“We take it one day at a time. Addiction is difficult, I don’t have a crystal ball. I pray hard,” she explained. “The Betty Ford Center is just an amazing place, it’s been life-changing. She wants to start her own facilities, help other children. She's so public, we can only be positive and look to the future to help other families.”
Dina added Lindsay is now staying “in a home” and has no intention of leaving rehab early – she was released from a 90-day court-ordered stint at another facility after 23 days earlier this year. She explained the young star is starting to learn more about her problems, and the best ways to keep them under control.
“Lindsay wants to stay. She’s learning the triggers points... it’s a lifelong journey,” she explained. “It’s her journey. It’s up to her. She is happy, relaxed, a different person.
“This one [Betty Ford], to me, has really changed her, they get into your psyche and the family. They bring the problem to the surface.”
Lindsay recently reunited with her father Michael Lohan, who she has a tumultuous relationship with, at the clinic, and Dina says she supports her daughter’s decision to get in touch with Michael.
