The star is renowned for her outspoken attitude and for being honest about her private life. She endured a difficult time while pregnant with her second child Angel, now three, after comedian Eddie Murphy publicly questioned whether he was her father. His paternity was later proved via a DNA test.
Mel lays herself bare in her reality programme Mel B: It’s A Scary World, which has been airing in America and hits UK screens next week. The show follows the former Spice Girl, her husband Stephen Belafonte and the three kids they raise together – Angel, Mel’s 11-year-old daughter Phoenix and Stephen’s six-year-old Giselle – and Mel thinks it will show people another side to her.
“I’ve never been one to be nervous about what people think of me. I’m a very confident person,” she explained to New! magazine. “Yes, sometimes I feel vulnerable just like anybody else, but there’s no harm in showing that. We’re all human.
“You’ll get a really good picture of how we do things and how we function as a blended family with three kids who have different mums and dads. You’ll see how we work together.”
Mel admits the time around Angel’s birth was hard, although she denies reports she called it “horrible”. She loves being pregnant, and is hoping to add to her family before long.
“We plan on it in the next year or two,” she confirmed.
