The former Spice Girls singer is currently promoting her reality television series Mel B: It’s a Scary World, in which she stars with her producer-husband Stephen Belafonte and her two children Phoenix, 11 – whose father is Mel’s ex-husband Jimmy Gulzar - and three-year-old Angel.
Eddie is Angel’s father, although he publicly questioned the paternity while Mel was pregnant. A DNA test later proved he is the dad.
“I have two beautiful kids and they both see their fathers,” Mel B told BBC Breakfast News. “It’s amicable. It works. And you do have to make it work if you’re a parent at the end of the day.”
Mel said she opened her life up to the scrutiny of cameras because she would rather people judge her on who she is rather than making up their minds without evidence.
She added the show proves that despite her girlband persona of Scary Spice, she couldn’t be further removed from the image in reality.
“I’m not very scary,” she admitted. “When you see my show you see I break down in my therapy sessions, I have a hard time juggling my family life with my business and professional life you get to see a real insight as to how my family functions.”
Mel also addressed rumours about her marriage to Stephen and said that the pair, who have been friends for years, are very “connected” to one another.
Although they take therapy sessions together, it is only to make sure that everything “runs smoothly”.
“It’s a very connected relationship,” she said. “We’re the same age, nine days apart, he’s been my best friend for eight years and we’re very open and connected with each other and that is a basis for a very good relationship... Me and my husband love each other and we’re not scared to show people about our family.”
