The former Spice Girls star – who has daughters Phoenix, 11, and Angel Iris, three, from previous relationships – and husband Stephen Belafonte, who also has a child, six-year-old Giselle, have been talking about expanding their family further and hope to have a brother for their girls.
Mel said: "I love kids. Between me and my husband, we have three. So yeah, we definitely want to have some together, which would be good.
"It'd be nice to throw a boy in there too because we've got three girls. We'll see."
However, Mel may be too busy to start a family in the near future as she is hotly-tipped to land a role as a judge on the US version of Simon Cowell's star-search contest 'The X Factor', and the 34-year-old star admits she would be delighted to get the job.
She told US TV show 'Access Hollywood': "There's always rumours. Rumours are rumours. But whoever gets the job will be great. I think it's a great job.
"It would be perfect. Simon and I know exactly where we stand with each other. He's a really sweet guy. I like him."
