Metallica are taking their Orion festival to the Motor City, and they're bringing a whole lot of their friends along for the ride.
The band have announced the initial lineup for the second-annual fest — set for June 8-9 at Detroit's Belle Isle — which will feature the Red Hot Chili Peppers (who will headline one night, with Metallica closing out the other), Rise Against, Deftones, Silversun Pickups, Death Grips, Dillinger Escape Plan, Japandroids, Gogol Bordello and many more. Bassnectar will headline a brand-new EDM tent, and, when revealed, the full lineup for Orion 2.0 will feature more than 30 bands and DJs.
Of course, like last year's inaugural event (held in Atlantic City, New Jersey), each member of Metallica will also host a sideshow, including the return of James Hetfield's custom car and motorcycle show, Kirk Hammett's collection of classic horror memorabilia (no lie, "The Crypt" was pretty awesome) and Robert Trujillo's Van's vert ramp. Oh, and they're bringing the Metallica Museum back, too.
Metallica fanclub members get the first crack at Orion tickets, in a pre-sale that begins Tuesday (February 26) at 7 p.m. PT. There's also a special pre-sale for Orion e-list members, which starts on February 27 at 7 a.m. PT, and the rest of us can snag two-day passes (which cost $150) on March 1 at 7 a.m. PT.
