A statement from Sonisphere has claimed that Metallica were only officially asked to headline Glastonbury just over a week ago.
After tabloids named the metal band as the headliners on 1 May, it was officially confirmed on 8 May that the Pyramid Stage of the iconic festival would be headlined by Metallica.
The band are also set to appear at Sonisphere festival, and their appearance had been advertised as their only UK festival appearance.
In a statement on their official website following the announcement, Sonisphere said: "No doubt you have all heard the news today that Metallica are to appear at this year's Glastonbury Festival. It was only last week that the band were officially asked to headline the legendary Pyramid Stage and, in turn, they immediately asked Team Sonisphere what we thought about releasing them from their exclusive appearance at Sonisphere."
The statement continued: "Glastonbury is an institution and the pinnacle of performance for any artist in the UK and we know the band will be amazing!"
The festival also posted a spoof setlist for the band's Glastonbury performance, which changed all the song names to farming puns. No bitterness at all.
