Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett has complained about the struggle a band faces to make money in the current music scene, and has spoken of his disappointment that the band have to continue to work in order to earn money.
In a new interview with Rolling Stone magazine, the guitarist complains that he is no longer able to take two years off work in between recording sessions and still need to tour to bring in revenue. Metallic tours are said to earn the band up to $90 million.
“The cycles of taking two years off don’t exist anymore. We were able to do that because we had record royalties coming in consistently,” said Hammett in the Rolling Stone interview. “Now you put out an album, and you have a windfall maybe once or twice but not the way it used to be — a check every three months.”
Metallica may have had a recent boost to their popularity with Justin Bieber fans, as the Canadian singer recently named the band's 'Black Album' as one of his favourite records.
