Overview
The 43-year-old actress says that she has had to toughen up in order to be able to listen to rape victims' stories without breaking down.
Aid workers even had to take her to one side during her first overseas assignment with the United Nations offshoot group in Kosovo, and tell her to toughen up.
She told CNN, 'I'm a terrible person sometimes for this because I can become so emotionally involved.
'In Kosovo, I had to be taken aside and told, 'This is gonna be a very emotional path for the rest of your life. You're gonna see and hear things you should never see or hear.''
She added that the strength of the victims that she visits in the shelters is an inspiration.
'They have such courage... They have big dreams. I wanna help... (but) I certainly feel and it brings me to my knees,' she added.
