Scherzinger, 32, recently stood in for Cole on the British talent show after the 27-year-old Girls Aloud singer was struck down with malaria.
It was subsequently claimed that the pair didn't get on.
But Scherzinger said the reports were not true and were printed before they had even met.
Talking to UK magazine Cosmopolitan, she said: 'I have to distance myself from what you read in the tabloids because I'm very sensitive to that stuff…
'I just think it's absolute b******* when I read it. Where did they even come up with these things? I'd never even met Cheryl and they were saying all this stuff.”
She added: 'I think they were trying to start a rivalry between us, but it's all silly and, at the end of the day, you just have to laugh about it because it's not real.'
