Nicole Scherzinger and Lewis Hamilton's turbulent seven-year relationship has reportedly ended for good.
After more break-ups and make-ups than anyone can count, the former Pussycat Dolls lead singer is said to have pulled the plug on the romance after coming to the realisation that the two want vastly different things.
According British newspaper The Sun, the 36-year-old American performer and her 30-year-old British Formula One racing champion boyfriend got into a "series of explosive rows" over the Christmas holidays which resulted in their break-up.
"It really is over this time. Nicole has finally had enough. She knew Lewis had no plans to marry her," a source told the publication. "She's completely gutted and feels lost about her future. This time, enough is enough for Nicole. They can't keep doing this to each other. It's not fair on either of them."
It's certainly not the first time the pair have broken up over Nicole's desire to get married and start a family, which her younger beau seemingly isn't ready to commit to. The source claimed their fighting has escalated in recent months.
Not helping matters is the fact that they live on opposite sides of the world, spending significantly more time apart than together.
"Nicole obviously wants to settle down at some point soon so she couldn't waste her time if Lewis was at all uncertain. But they spend so much time apart that things just became untenable," the insider revealed.
Though the fault seems to rest squarely on Lewis' shoulders, a close friend of the star's insisted that isn't the case. The pal revealed that Lewis has tried his best to give Nicole everything she wanted – and had "tried" to pop the question in the past.
While the former couple haven't been photographed together since December 27, The Sun reports that they denied splitting just last week.
Indeed, rumours swirled over the weekend that the racing star was set to pop the question with a US$530,000 engagement ring.
"That couldn't have been further from the truth. There's not going to be any proposal or any wedding," the insider stated.
Just last month, Lewis spoke about the pressure he was feeling to get engaged. Though while he admitted that his family was eager for him to make the commitment, he and Nicole were both on the same page about their careers taking precedence.
"I'm certainly feeling pressure, heat from family members. But Nicole's massively focused on her work the same as I am. We're happy just the way we are," he insisted.
The Sun reports that Lewis told his close friends on Monday night that it was over for good though the pair still "love each other and we're good friends", adding that they "tried really hard and it just didn't work out".
