Nicole was concerned that her new gig would affect her music career, which she says is her number one priority.
The 32-year-old told BBC Radio 1's Newsbeat: 'I was really excited but I had my own reservations just because I came out with my album Killer Love and my music is number one to me.
'I just want to get it out there so I wanted to make sure it wouldn't get in the way of promoting the music.'
She added: 'Simon's just been really supportive of it.'
The Don't Hold Your Breath singer will co-host the new US version of the talent competition alongside Welsh TV presenter Steve Jones.
Nicole said that Simon Cowell called to ask her to be in the upcoming series and added that she didn't have to audition as her stint as a guest judge on the UK X Factor last year was enough.
She said: 'Honestly I had such a great time on the show. It's such a phenomenon. I love Simon, so it was an honour that they asked me to be a part of the US version.'
