The former Pussycat Dolls frontwoman is currently involved with the audition stage of new US talent show The X Factor, leaving little time for her boyfriend of three-and-a-half-years. However, she isn’t worried that their frequent spells apart from each other will adversely affect their romance.
"Spending time apart is good. It makes the time together more precious," Nicole said in an interview with British magazine Star.
The couple began dating in November 2007 but split in January 2010 to focus on their respective careers. After a few months apart they were seen together at a motor racing event and have been going strong ever since.
Nicole impressed Simon Cowell when she stepped in as a guest judge on the UK version of The X Factor last year. She has now landed the role of co-host on the Stateside talent show, alongside Welsh presenter Steve Jones, and Nicole insists it is a great opportunity for her to try something new.
"It was Simon's choice," Nicole said of the coveted job. "But the way I look at it, I have never hosted before, so it's a new challenge for me. I'm actually happy they asked me to host because for me, the reason I'm doing it is because this is what I love and this is what I know and this is what I'm passionate about.
"It's my way to give back and pay it forward and be supportive. I feel like I'm better served being a host because I'm able to empower the contestants and encourage them as opposed to having to be in a position to say no."
She also revealed some behind the scenes gossip and said that although Simon has a reputation of being tough she is more than capable of standing up to him.
"I can handle myself! We've got a good relationship," she smiled.
