The Right There hitmaker, who was originally set to be a co-host on the talent competition, has officially replaced Cheryl Cole on the judging panel alongside Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and L.A. Reid.
But during a pre-recorded appearance on British programme The Graham Norton Show, the 32-year-old admitted that she didn't find out about her new role until everyone else did.
She said: 'I haven't said this yet, but I think it's official that I have been made a judge.
'It's an amazing opportunity.
'I'm kind of finding out along with everyone else. It's kind of crazy to read about it in the newspaper first.'
Scherzinger starts her new role on the X Factor at the show's auditions in New Jersey today.
The full interview with Nicole on The Graham Norton Show is due to air on BBC One this Friday.
