Nicole Scherzinger has reportedly split from Lewis Hamilton.
Speculation arose the pair would soon be announcing they were engaged, after Lewis recently revealed he wanted to propose within the year. However, it seems their busy careers have made it difficult for them to maintain their relationship. Singer Nicole lives in the US, while Formula 1 racing driver Lewis is based in Switzerland and this has also put pressure on the romance.
"It's so hard to keep up a relationship when they're barely in the same country as each other," a source told British newspaper The Sun. "Both have supported each other in their careers and will continue to do so. But the nature of their work ultimately cost their relationship."
The news follows a frustrating weekend for 28-year-old Lewis. He missed out on a podium spot at the British Grand Prix on Sunday after suffering a dramatic puncture during the race.
Just a few weeks ago, the racing driver revealed he was thinking about settling down with the former Pussycat Dolls star.
"We've been together for five years, which is quite a milestone," he said when quizzed on proposing to Nicole. "But hopefully in the near future. Maybe before we get to six years."
The pair began dating after meeting at the MTV Awards in 2007. They parted ways in 2010, but got back together a few months later. In 2011, Nicole's dad sparked wedding rumours after claiming the pair were engaged – but the 35-year-old beauty later shot down the speculation.
Nicole has made no secret of how difficult it was maintaining a long-distance relationship and their busy careers.
"You kinda have to look at the schedules because people will put something in any time that you have off and we're always working. We have to be like, 'OK, this week I'm going to try to make it to this race, if I don't, I've got this performance here; what can you do?' Every minute counts, you know?" she explained earlier this year.
