Absolute Radio's Sarah Champion interviewed Paul Weller backstage at Hard Rock Calling, the first gig at the Olympic Park since Coldplay performed at the Paralympics Closing Ceremony. Back at the Olympic Park, Weller reminised about his Hammersmith Apollo gig, at which Bradley Wiggins joined him on-stage.Weller said, "He's a good lad but Bradley was bricking it".
He also revealed he wrote 'That's Entertainment' in ten mins flat saying " I wrote in 10 mins flat, whilst under the influence, I'd had a few but some songs just write themselves. It was easy to write - I drew on everything around me - admits he had a few when he wrote it. It was one of those songs that needed to be written, every now and then they write themselves.
When asked about what he was listening to at the moment he replied, " Miles Kane -I really like his stuff and he's a great performer. I also like Toy Soldiers - Arthur Gun is really good. And Palma Violets, also Vampire Weekend".
When asked if anyone else is on his wishlist to work with he said, "I'm open to working with anyone. "
When asked about his favourite songs from across the eras he's been around he said, "I would need a few weeks to think about it..and then a few more weeks to think about it again".
Lots of bands cite him as an influence and ask him for advice - on dispensing advice to his younger self he "wouldn't offer advice to anyone else or myself for that matter, I would just say you are doing the right thing AND that mistakes are part of the journey".
