It took a disgraced child molester to save Tony Abbott from being Australia's most hated celebrity. Rolf Harris has pipped the Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott for the title.
Harris, who was jailed for sex crimes against children in the UK in 2014, is the most hated person in the public domain with Australia's right-wing conservative Prime Minister Abbott coming in second place ahead of radio presenter Kyle Sandilands, with politicians Joe Hockey, Clive Palmer and Pauline Hanson all in the prominent no 4, 5 and 6 positions in the Top 10.
Rounding up the Top 10 Most Hated Australian Celebrities are footballer Ben Cousins (7), bookie Tom Waterhouse (8), 'we don't really know what she does for a living' Brynne Edelsten (9) and model Lara Bingle (10).
The study was compiled by Pureprofile and commissioned by Focal Attractions and was based on a list of 1000 local and international names with a high media profile. Pureprofile CEO Paul Chan said, "the survey is used as a barometer for brands and marketers to gauge public sentiment around key public figures and the potential influence they have on consumers".
