SANDI THOM is said to be devastated after her missing cat was found shot dead.
The musician was given the sad news after a six-week search for Toots who went missing near her mother's home in Edzell, Angus, Scotland.
Thom, 27, called on the services of pet detectives Animal Search UK, who were tipped off that the black-and-white cat had been shot dead.
The I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker singer has appealed for anyone with information about where her cat's remains are to come forward.
Animal Search UK were told by a local that a landowner had killed Toots and disposed of its body on the banks of the West Water in the area.
Writing on her website, Thom said: "The police have confirmed it is illegal to shoot a cat.
"However, to enable them to make an arrest we have to find wee Tooty's remains, or this sickening person will get away with it.
"How would this person behave, if someone walked up to his dog and shot it dead?"
After Toots disappeared on 27 February, posters were put up around the village asking for information.
Tom Watkins, the former police officer who set up Animal Search UK, said investigations are continuing to trace the alleged killer.
He said: "It is good information we had, it's pretty firm evidence that Toots has been shot.
"Sandi is devastated and has not really been able to think about anything apart from Toots since she found out. She is terribly upset."
Thom shot to fame three years ago after she performed on a series of webcasts, dubbed 21 Nights from Tooting, from the basement of her south London flat.
This secured her a record deal with RCA and a number one debut single, I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker (With Flowers In My Hair), which knocked Gnarls Barkley's Crazy off the top spot on June 4 2006.
