Suge Knight is released from jail

Death Row Records founder Marion "Suge" Knight has been released from a California prison after serving 10 months for violating his parole on a 1997 assault conviction.

Described as a "model inmate," Knight was released April 22 from Mule Creek State Prison in Ione. A state parole panel sent Knight back to prison on Aug. 4, 2003, for his second parole violation after he punched a parking attendant outside a Hollywood nightclub last summer.

Knight, 39, said earlier this week that he plans to produce a hip-hop album to benefit financially troubled families of soldiers in Iraq by Christmas.

He still faces a federal probe into the 1997 murder of rapper Christopher Wallace, known as Notorious B.I.G. or Biggie Smalls. Wallace's murder followed the murder of legendary Death Row rapper Tupac Shakur, who was shot dead in Las Vegas while riding in a car driven by Knight in September 1996.
