Cartoonist David Rees has put together a mash-album, mixing the British electronic musician Aphex Twin and pop heroine Taylor Swift.
It sounds unlikely to say the least, but most certainly works. Rees posted the eight track album on SoundCloud and explained his reasons for making the record on Tumblr. In the post, the star of National Geographic’s ‘Going Deep with David Rees’ explained why he started the project: “I am a big fan of both these artists – I think they’ve each written some thrilling pop hooks and their production is amazing. I also just wanted to see if it could be done. (Plus I thought “AphexSwift” passed the threshold of catchy titles for mashup projects, which is half the battle.)”
We promise you that this is well worth a listen. The combination of spacey electronic music with Swift’s empowering, criminally catchy pop works outstandingly well.
Neither artist has commented on the release as of yet, but it’s highly likely that they would be flattered seeing as Rees stated that he would be ‘open to marrying either of them.’
Earlier this year, Aphex Twin released his sixth studio album ‘Syro’ to widespread critical acclaim while Taylor Swift’s latest release ‘1989’ is set to drop next week.
