Even though Taylor Swift hasn't kicked off her Red Tour yet, she's already making new music — and that might not be great timing for rumored ex Harry Styles.
"Back in the studio," Swift tweeted Thursday (January 9), before poking fun at her reputation for writing very autobiographical love songs: "Uh oh... "
Back in the studio. Uh oh...
Rumors started swirling earlier this week that Swift and the One Direction heartthrob broke up after two months together, but neither has confirmed the chatter. Just last week, the pop power pair were spotted ringing in the new year with a very public kiss in Times Square before jetting off to the British Virgin Islands for a romantic getaway. When Swift was spotted leaving the islands by herself, several outlets — including Business Insider and Life & Style — cited "sources" who claimed the two split after a "heated argument" during the holiday.
What do fans think about Swift and Styles' rumored split?
Swift hit up the People's Choice Awards solo on Wednesday night, rocking a low-cut white dress that definitely screamed "single and ready to mingle," but we might have to wait until her new music arrives for the full story.
Swift's penchant for close-to-home song subjects began early in her career with one of her first crossover singles, "Teardrops on My Guitar," from her self-titled debut album. The song's very first line ("Drew looks at me, I fake a smile so he won't see") name-drops her platonic neighbor who didn't think to ask her out till she was famous. Of course, now that's she's a superstar, so are the men she's writing about, from John Mayer ("Dear John") and Joe Jonas ("Forever and Always") to Taylor Lautner ("Back to December") and Jake Gyllenhaal ("All Too Well").
What kind of song would Taylor write about Harry?
When Swift released Red in October, it sold a staggering 1.21 million copies its first week, the biggest debut in more than a decade. Since Swift's 2006 debut album, she's released a new record every two years, so Swift could either be logging studio time with another artist, recording bonus tracks for Red or fans will be waiting until fall 2014 to hear this potential song about her time with Styles.
