Billboard reports that Taylor Swift's third album, the gorgeous Speak Now, which was released Monday, is pacing itself to sell almost a million copies its first week in stores. It would be the year's biggest first week tally. Industry insiders are predicting that the platter will sell between 800,000 to 900,000 copies by week's end on October 31. The final numbers will be available next Wednesday, November 3.
Speak Now could end up being the top album of 2010. I wonder if actor Jake Gyllenhaal, who has been seen squiring Swift about town in NYC, digs the record.
The best sales week of the year belongs to Eminem's smash hit, Recovery, which landed at No. 1 with 741,000 copies, and continued to move units and hold onto the Numero Uno slot for many weeks through the long, hot summer.
