The 20-year-old singer said she often looks at her friends going to university and feels jealous. But the pangs only last for a short time, until she realises how lucky she is.
The blonde-haired star has admitted she sometimes sits in on lectures with her college friends to get the best of both the celebrity and ‘normal’ worlds.
“I’ve had glimpses of wishing that, but they’ve lasted about two seconds because I’m so happy getting to do what I love,” she told the Australian radio programme the Kyle and Jackie O Show. “I think regardless of what path you choose to go down in life, there is always that other path that you could take, and I’ve always had one eye on that path, that path is university and my friends - they all went that route - but the cool thing is I can sometimes go and sit in on their classes and it’s like you get to have that experience for a day without having to do the homework.”
The American musician also revealed that her songs are very autobiographical and reveal the challenges and heartache she experiences in her life.
However the young Grammy Award winner said she would choose to use the medium of song to express herself rather than divulge personal information in an interview.
“I have this interesting contradiction to my personality where I write songs about my life and I write songs about my experiences but when it comes the time to be confronted with a questions like that in interview - I just don’t say anything,” she said when asked about rumours that former boyfriend Taylor Lautner would “love” her new album Speak Now whereas John Mayer, another man she has been linked with, would not. “When I was 12 and I was writing songs, I was writing songs about my life and that’s exactly what I do now - in spite of the fact that there is a little more speculation on the subject matter now more so than when I was 12.”
