Taylor Swift's tour set list "hits different emotional levels" throughout the show.
The singer-and-songwriter wants every single song to make an impact on the audience and puts a lot of effort into deciding the best order of tracks.
The hugely successful country star is currently touring North America with her latest album Red and will be performing in Austin, Texas, tonight.
Taylor knew opening track State of Grace would start her show even when she was still writing it.
"You kind of plan the show so that it hits different emotional levels throughout the entire evening, which is what you're hoping for," Taylor told Australian radio show Kyle and Jackie O. "For me, it's very important to have every song in the show be engaging - not just the first and the last. But when I wrote the song that ended up being the first on the show I had this feeling, like, 'This is going to start the show'."
Taylor also spoke about the special "bond" she shares with her fans.
When asked whether she feels like she has her audience "on a string", the 23-year-old star explained that she simply shares genuine feelings and experiences with her fans.
Taylor added that she loves watching how her audience reacts throughout the show.
"For me, we have gone through the same things and have apparently thought about it in the same way, so that's a really cool bond, and a cool connection," she said. "It's amazing to look out into the crowd every single night and see that connection and see which people relate to different songs in different ways."
