Taylor Swift Nabs First-Ever Hot 100 #1 With 'Ever'

Taylor Swift already made chart history with her new single "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," and now, she's notched a bit of personal history too.

Thanks to the record-breaking 623,000 downloads of "Ever" — a new mark for a female artist, besting the 448,000 downloads Lady Gaga sold in a week with "Born This Way" — the song will take over the #1 spot on Billboard's Hot 100 (leaping all the way from #72), giving Swift her first-ever Hot 100 chart-topper.

Swift had come close to reaching the summit before (both "You Belong With Me" and "Today Was a Fairytale" got to #2 on the chart, and "Mine" climbed to #3), but "Ever" — which also tops Billboard's Digital Songs chart — is her first to make it all the way to the top. It's rather remarkable that it's taken her this long to accomplish the feat. After all, according to Nielsen SoundScan, she's sold more than 17.8 million albums in the U.S. and more than 50 million digital downloads since bursting onto the scene in 2006. Her songs have also topped Billboard's Digital, Radio, Pop and Country charts.

In addition to making the climb to #1 on the Hot 100, "Ever" — the first single from Swift's upcoming Red album — is also making tremendous strides on radio, climbing to #14 on Billboard's Radio Songs chart and bowing at #13 on the Country Songs chart, the highest debut by a female artist in the SoundScan era.

Swift has also just been announced as a performer at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards (she'll perform a new song from Red), joining a list of talent that already includes Pink, One Direction, Green Day and Alicia Keys.
