On her , Taylor Swift documented a life in the fast lane of love — one that sometimes ignored the yellow signs and red flags. From the self-destruction in "I Knew You Were Trouble" to the all-or-nothing "Red," the singer used her highly publicized relationships as kindle for a fiery tale about falling in love fast.
But now, at 23 and single, it seems that Swift is starting to pay attention to the traffic signals, slow down and enjoy the ride.
"Relationships are like traffic lights. And I just have this theory that I can only exist in a relationship if it's a green light," Swift says in the cover story for Wonderland magazine's April/May Outspoken Issue, according to Just Jared.
After years of jumping from relationship to relationship and admittedly never being able to make them last, it seems the thought of riding solo isn't all that terrifying to Swift. Nor is the thought that she might not know exactly where she's headed.
"I've kind of realized that I have no idea where I'm going to be next year, or in six months, or in two months. I mean, I know where I'll be on tour in two months, but no idea where I'm going to be mentally, emotionally, dreams, goals, wishes, hopes," she says. "I have no idea if I'm going to get married or be single forever or have a family or just be on my own. You know, paint in a cottage by the ocean by myself."
But this new hair-blowing-in the-wind mentality doesn't mean that Swift is numb to the pain of love lost. But rather, she's told Wonderland that it's all a part of the ride.
"It's very complex; you're never feeling just sad," said Swift, who is currently in the thick of her Red Tour. "Maybe you wake up and you feel sad, and then you get angry, and then you feel like 'I'm fine,' and then you feel confident, and then you feel a sense of doubt, and then you're insecure, and then there's jealousy, and then you're back to sad -- and then you feel fine again."
